Welcome to the site of Invincible Vince. My name’s Joanne Thompson. I wrote this book for my son. He always likes to be the winner, so I wrote a story about an ordinary young boy who becomes a hero in another world – a world which exists at the bottom of his garden.
It’s a very fast-moving adventure, so put your seatbelts on! I think it turned out that way because I used to read a lot of adventure stories when I was young and I read books very, very quickly, just couldn’t put them down, and I wanted my book to be like that too.
When you read the book, you will have to read it quickly in any case, because of the layout. There’s a lot of white space and short sentences which propel you forward. And there are a lot of sound effects, a bit like you find in comics, which add to the fun, and also make it great to read aloud. The adventure takes place in a land called Oops, a world where anything goes. I made it that way because I like using my imagination, pushing ideas as far as they will go.
